Pet Ownership is More Than Owning a Dog or Cat

You have to learn how to take care of them. Pets are like children and are dependent on you for their needs. Pets are a commitment and they need you for their love and care.

Be a Responsible Pet Owner

Make sure they have plenty of food and water and have a clean dry place to sleep, and they are groomed regular. Take your pet for walks they need their exercise just like you do. Make sure you have a fenced yard for them to run in. It is not good to chain an animal up for long periods of time. Don't get a dog that is to high energy with small children.

Spay or Neuter Your Pet

Females come into their heat every 6months. Sometimes it is hard to keep them in their yard at this time. They will take off to find a male or the male dogs will be in your dog. It is less hassle just to solve the problem, by getting them fixed or in the case of a male neutered. There are too many unwanted animals.

Do Not Leave your Pet Alone

Don't leave your pet in the back yard alone for too long. They need companionship too, let need to be with the family and played with, not locked in the back yard alone.

Let Your Pet Inside When It is Cold

Be Leery of the weather. Let them in when it is cold and wet outside. Make sure there is a dry place outside for them to sleep or a doghouse if they are an outside animal. Some animals are afraid of strange, loud noises during a storm. My dog howls when there is a storm and get scared until I bring her in, then she was her tail and lays down. If you have a small dog, I have a pet bed for her.

Beware of Poisonous Plants

Pet safe your home. Some plants are poisonous. Detergents and cleaners, and medications could be deadly to your animal, as well as insecticides you use in the garden. Use some judgment. You or your kids would be sad if something happened to your pet due to carelessness. Teach your children early about safety.

Make Sure Your Pet is Wearing a ID Tag

Make sure your pet has an id tag in case they are lost. So many animals never get returned, consider a microchip. Make sure they have all their vaccinations. There is low-cost clinics your can take your pet to.

Give Your Pet Obedience Training

Give your animal obedience and social skills. Learn basic command skills like "come," "sit," and "stay." Have pet toys for your pet to play with.

Give Your Pet a Good Diet

Provide a good diet for your pet. Don't give them candy or chocolate, they can get really sick. Obesity can be deadly as malnutrition.

Give Your Pets Lots of Love
